Felting Carders (Pair)

This design of handcarder has evolved over the last 35 years. If you are comparing different makes of carder an important feature is that ours are made from stainless steel wire which will never rust.

To avoid scraping your knuckles on the card cloth different angles of setting of the handle were tried, and again arrived at the current design. For strength and lightness we have used plywood for the backs. Finally the card cloth was decided on. A three ply woven cotton foundation with rubber facing, this gives the desired support to the wires and flexibility.

When making your choice there are a few points to consider.

The 72 point wire is sutable for all wool fibres and most of the animal hairs. The 108 point fine carders are most suitable for the very fine animal fibres

Please Note: The card cloth wire has a light coating of oil to lubricate it during manufacture. This is normally so light that it is not noticeable. Sometimes the application has been a little more and it can show on the wool. We suggest that you initially use the carders with some "waste" wool just to make certain the wire is cleaned off.

* Covered in 72 point card cloth with 3 ply rubber back for durability.  Stainless steeel wire 

* Wire is 25 Carder Wire Gauge. Over the last 40 years this has been found to be the optimum wire for best handcarding results.
