Spring into Glory with Crab Apple with Bets Maas

2 Day Workshop - Saturday 11th & Sunday 12th July

Crab apple trees are some of the most giving trees in the garden. It clothes itself in spring with massive billows of bright blooms. The colour on the same branch ranges from  deep pink buds opening to pink tinged and white petals. The embroidery is done with silk thread and mounted on a background of  dupion silk

The Barbola technique is used in this depiction and suits the subject matter ideally. It allows for the twisting and folding of sepals, petals and leaves without distorting the embroidery stitches. The embroidery is done with integrate detail of the life specimen. Bets has made Barbola the signature of all her three dimensional embroidery and it gives this beautiful specimen its lifelike  appearance.
