2 Day Workshop - Thursday 9th & Friday 10th July
Fine goldwork stitching is one of the most opulent and rich types of embroidery, practised since Roman times and even before. Today exquisite goldwork stitching/techniques are to be found on fashion clothing, and on military and ecclesiastical regalia, and examples may be found in many museums and in private and the Royal collections (such as Her Majesty the Queen’s 1954 Coronation Robe).
In this two-day class you will explore, learn and stitch the principal techniques of traditional goldwork, using the original gold threads made in England. At the end of the class by working this rewarding and stunning prize-winning design on silk velvet you will have had the opportunity to see, learn, and personally stitch the fundamental traditional goldwork techniques, and will return home with your Royal Goldwork Spray or Goldwork Wheatsheaf well on the way to completion.
Tutor Bella Lane is a master in goldwork, and a winner of the top prize for Traditional & Creative goldwork at the Royal School of Needlework in Hampton Court Palace, London in both 2008 and 2009.
