46 Gauge Triangle Felting Needles Pk 10

Price: $19.95 (AUD)

The 46 gauge triangular needle has 3 working edges but with barbs at the point only.

A super fine needle for the very delicate work of finishing fine details, mainly used on 3D figures.

These needles allow the pre-felting process to take place without the need for soap and water, as well as being used to create 3Dforms. Felting needles are designed to entangle the fibres by pushing and pulling each individual fibre. To do this they have a series of barbs along the working edge that grab the fibres and move them around. They are produced in different thickness gauges; the thicker the needle the bigger the barbs. This hole does tend to close up as the work relaxes, but for fine work a fine nedle is needed.

All needles are manufactured to the gauge standard, as we list them, not to any colour code or other type of description. We have selected a simple range for use by hand taking into account function and price.

Whilst all of the needles will tolerate a small amount of bending, too much and they will break.  As such a straight in and-and-out actionwill ensure a long life for the needle. A well used needle will wear out the barbs before it breaks. Beware of cheap far eastern versions which do not have the same quality and durability

They can be used singly or in groups in small hand felt making tools. In a group in a tool they can be used to place decorations precisely on pieces of pre-felt. Three dimensional work can also be carried out. In this case it is usual to work with a single needle to sculpt shapes.

Safety
These needles, like all sharp tools, need treating with care. They are not suitable for use by children without close supervision. All our needles are packed in robust slide lock boxes. Please keep them in these boxes when not in use.
