Late Summer Haze by Catherine Howell

Entranced by the rick colours of the blue heath land butterflies fluttering against the sun drenched hues of grasses and heather of a late Summer evening in Shropshire, England.

Catherine set herself a task to replicate this image as a textural embroidered piece. Firstly, using reverse needle felting techniques on hand dyed gauze for the background, giving it the hazy feel of the summer evening. The glittering grasses were created with metallic threads, the heath-land and beaded wire techniques added for the Heather plantings. Diaphanous Blue butterflies were created in hand dyed silk organza's to complete this exciting heath land scene. Design 25cm x 32cm.
